Meshworks designed a contemporary extension of a historical church in Johannesburg’s established Parkview suburb. The design - as yet unbuilt - was conceptualised by our clients to take the church into its next century. An important aspect of the brief was to make the church relevant to new congregants and members of the surrounding community, many of whom have stressful jobs and young families. Our design reconfigures aspects of the historical site while celebrating the original buildings. It creates a new and welcoming entry and a formal connection between the church hall and the church’s neighbouring property. Our central intention is to create a light, open, and inviting community space while remaining true to the site's history.
